With the pandemic, organizing has largely shifted online. In addition to canvassing on foot, there are now ways to canvass digitally. DigiCanvass offers an innovative WhatsApp messaging tool to reach South Asian communities in a more trusted place where many are already getting information. DigiCanvass can be used upon request here. You can also send any questions you have to info@digicanvass.com.
The Democracy Labs offers a host of case studies and experiences using often free tools online to more effectively organize within a community or around an issue. Among them is the use of action buttons to rally around an issue. Below is an example of an Action Button developed in partnership with Impact to respond to the appalling and racist comments from Amy Wax. These buttons can be shared anywhere to convey a message and demand action.
Another tool that has been used by The Democracy Labs is the use of Chatbots to keep communities or an audience engaged and up to date on information on a specific subject. One of the most recent case, use a chatbot to keep people up to date on H1B1 information. Just text H1B1 to 202-858-0303 to see the response! For more information on use of the tools and a list of resources go to The Democracy Labs website.
